Artist-in-Residence

Once a year, we host an international emerging artist whose practice is deeply invested in material culture or phenomenological studies, to pursue their research at our studios. The artist is also invited to develop an edition of products and/or undertake commissions on behalf of the studio.

Stine Bidstrup -Denmark

2012

During her time at ChoChoMa Studios, Stine explored the use of glass bangles to "challenge and develop my on-going project entitled Studies in Search of Order and Chaos. I became familiar with the strong glass bangle making traditions and used these as the raw material to build constructions and meshes harnessing my interest in enlarging the innate disturbances and potential for dissolution and chaos in all systems of seeming order, most often seen in my work as a rational grid growing out of proportions and being distorted."

Aimee Sones -USA

2011

Aimee continued her practice of embedding photographic work with kiln formed glass. She explored how these two might be integrated through the use of water-jet cutting, while studying the contrasts between the infrastructural needs and layouts of a developing nation in South Asia and the USA, her home country.
